Karen Matdaata Mahotsav Art and Dance for Democracy in N&M Andaman

As the General Election-2024 approaches, a creative initiative aimed at voter awareness took centre stage at North & Middle Andaman Beach a unique event on April 6, 2024. Organized by the District Election Officer, N&M Andaman, and in collaboration with the Electoral Participation (SVEEP) team, orchestrated the Karen Matdaata Mahotsav, a vibrant initiative aimed at fostering voter awareness among the populace.

The District Election Officer of North & Middle Andaman, Shri Dilkhush Meena, spearheaded this innovative initiative, aiming to foster a sense of civic responsibility and empower every eligible voter.

Under the banner of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program), the event showcased various cultural performances, including nukkad natak, dance by Karen community children, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of voting. The slogan “Nothing like voting, 1 vote for sure” echoed through the festivities, emphasizing the pivotal role each vote plays in shaping the nation’s future.

The Karen Matdaata Mahotsav served as a platform for interactive sessions, where attendees were enlightened about the electoral process, voter registration, and the significance of exercising their franchise. Through engaging activities and informative displays, the event aimed to bridge the gap between voters and the electoral system, encouraging active participation in the democratic process.

The highlight of the event was the mesmerizing Sand Art exhibition, illustrating the journey of democracy and the essence of voting. Crafted by skilled artists, the intricate sand sculptures depicted scenes depicting electoral awareness, urging citizens to make informed choices and fulfill their duty towards the nation.

With the participation of around 300 individuals from diverse backgrounds, the Karen Matdaata Mahotsav successfully fostered a sense of community engagement and democratic spirit. Through cultural exchanges and informative sessions, the event not only raised awareness but also instilled a sense of pride in exercising one’s democratic right.

Karen Matdaata Mahotsav was celebrated to reach out to the Karen Community in Mayabunder under SVEEP along with Sand Art to display the Election Process and awareness generation among the first-time voters. As the nation gears up for the upcoming elections, initiatives like these serve as a testament to the democratic ethos, emphasizing the collective responsibility of every citizen in shaping the destiny of the nation.
